The Afghan government has planned to spend 89 billion afghanis (approx. 1.1 billion US dollars) in the fight against coronavirus and on social welfare.
The government expects 29 billion afghanis ($381 million) by revising the national budget and the remaining from foreign donors.
According to the Finance Ministry, the cabinet has approved the financial plan which would soon be referred to the parliament for approval.
This comes as the parliament has been shut down as a precautionary measure against the spread of coronavirus.
Some members of parliamentary commission for finance and budget said that the parliament would hold an emergency meeting on the plan due to the importance of the issue.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s Integrity Watch criticized that the views of people and institutions have not been taken into account in revision of the budget.
Afghanistan has confirmed 2,704 coronavirus infection cases and 85 deaths attributed to it.
