Afghanistan’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on Sunday urged people and institutions to use internet responsibly as its infrastructure was facing unprecedented pressure amid the coronavirus lockdown.
The ministry said that surge in internet usage in the past one month has led to unprecedented pressure on the capacity and infrastructure of telecommunication companies.
The ministry said that non-essential large videos should be avoided as doing so would reduce traffic load and pressure on the current infrastructure and would not affect access to quality internet for fundamental services including distance learning and essential works.
The ministry noted that even the developed countries were facing the threat of internet breaking due to surge in usage.
It said that Netflix and YouTube reduced video quality to reduce pressure on the internet infrastructure.
