At least 789 civilians were killed and injured in Taliban attacks since the group signed a peace deal with the United States in late February, Afghan government said on Saturday.
The insurgents carried more than 2,804 attacks in less than two months since the deal, Javid Faisal, a spokesman for National Security Council, said at a press conference.
On an average, 51 attacks were carried out every day. In the past one week, militant attacks killed 34 civilians and injured 62 others, he said.
The official also said that Afghan forces killed 309 Taliban militants and injured 210 others in the past one week.
The figures are announced two days after President Ashraf Ghani repeated call on the Taliban to accept ceasefire offer, but the group rejected it citing the issue of prisoners.
Meanwhile, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) urged all parties in Afghanistan on Friday to urgently declare a lasting cease-fire and end violence during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement, the OIC appealed to all leaders and parties in Afghanistan to work together to ensure peace and stability in the country through dialogue amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Coronavirus cases rose to 1,463 in Afghanistan on Saturday with 133 new cases over the past 24 hours. 47 people have died while 188 others have recovered from the virus so far.
