Fifteen key prisoners the Taliban is demanding the Afghan government to release them include also the militant who facilitated the deadly tanker bombing outside the German embassy in Kabul on May 31, 2017, a government source told 1TV on Sunday.
At least 150 people were killed while hundreds more were wounded in the bombing which was the biggest such attack since the US-led campaign to oust the Taliban in 2001.
The US-Taliban deal signed in February stipulated the release of up to 5,000 Taliban prisoners and 1,000 government prisoners by March 10 when intra-Afghan talks were scheduled to begin.
The government has released 361 prisoners while the Taliban has freed 60 prisoners so far.
The source in the office of first vice president said that the Taliban has given no commitment that the released militants wouldn’t return to the battlefield, which is the government’s main condition.
According to the source, President Ashraf Ghani is ready to form an inclusive government but would not compromise on the Constitution.
The source said that the government wouldn’t share the leadership.
