Afghanistan’s health minister on Saturday announced plan to set up 100,000 isolation beds across the country amid rising Covid-19 cases.
Ferozuddin Feroz said this as he inaugurated an isolation center inside Kabul’s Darulaman palace.
He said that 10,000 isolation beds will be set up in Kabul.
According to the minister, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Afghanistan rose to 933 with 27 new cases over the last 24 hours.
The new cases were detected in Kabul (12), Paktia (7), Logar (4), Herat (2), Bamyan (1) and Daikundi (1).
Thirteen patients recovered from the disease during the period, he said.
Feroz admitted that the capacity to carry out coronavirus tests was not adequate, but he said that it will be boosted to up to 1,500 tests daily in coming days.
Referring to dozens of deaths in Kabul’s Surobi district in two weeks, which locals suspected to be due to coronavirus, Feroz said that the deaths could have been caused by other diseases.
