Nine Afghan soldiers were killed after Taliban militants attacked outposts in central Logar province last night, the country’s defense ministry said on Thursday.
The violence happened in Qala Dasht area of Charkh district.
Militants also suffered heavy casualties in the counterattack, MoD said in a statement without giving an exact figure.
Separately, three people including a woman and a child were killed when a mortar hit a house in eastern Paktia province on Thursday, an official said.
Three others were wounded in the incident which happened in Fakhri area of Rohani Baba district said Abdullah Hasrat, a spokesman for provincial governor.
The official said that the mortar had been firee by Taliban militants.
