Ten pro-government forces and eight Taliban militants have been killed in a clash in Afghanistan’s northern Jowzjan province, officials said Tuesday.
The clash happened after insurgents attacked police posts in Kokaldash village in Faiz Abad district on Monday night, said Fraidoon Aniq, a spokesman for provincial governor.
10 public uprising forces including their commander Baz Mohammad were killed while seven others were wounded in the clash which lasted until 4:00a.m. on Tuesday, he said
The clash also left eight Taliban militants dead and four others wounded, the official said.
Wahid Wijdan, the provincial police chief, also confirmed casualties among uprising forces, adding the situation had returned to normalcy.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed that the group’s fighters overran a checkpoint in the area and killed 10 pro-government forces.
He also confirmed that the Taliban suffered casualties in the clash.
