Four senior Afghan political figures have urged President Ashraf Ghani to suspend the process of appointing government officials in order to reach an understanding with his political rival Abdullah Abdullah.
In a joint statement, former president Hamid Karzai, Abdu Rabur Rasool Sayaf, Yonus Qanooni and Karim Khalili also called on Abdullah to extend his deadline for reaching an understanding.
They said that mediation efforts to resolve the impasse were going well.
They also expressed hope that peace talks will start as soon as possible.
