In worst-case scenario, the coronavirus outbreak could last until December, Afghanistan’s health minister warned on Monday.
Ferozuddin Feroz told a press conference that the situation in Afghanistan was better than that of its neighbors, but it didn’t mean precautionary measures should not be taken.
A total of 166 cases of coronavirus have been detected in the country. Four of the patients have died while five others have recovered.
Feroz said that 30,000 polio workers have now been tasked to find coronavirus cases.
Meanwhile, presidential adviser Waheed Omer said that coronavirus outbreak is going to get worse in Afghanistan.
Herat which is near the border with hard-hit Iran is the epicenter of Afghanistan’s coronavirus outbreak, having seen 131 cases.
On Sunday, Afghan ambassador in Tehran citing unofficial data said that around 50 Afghans had died due to coronavirus in Iran.
