Only two candidates have introduced their observers so far ahead of presidential election on September 28, officials said on Sunday.
Those who have introduced their observers are President Ashraf Ghani and Gulbadin Hekmatyar, the Independent Election Commission said.
Abdul Aziz Ibarhimi, IEC’s deputy spokesman, said that candidates could introduce their observers until September 21.
Some candidates said that insecurity, lack of public trust on election and possibility of a peace deal between the United States and the Taliban are the reasons why they haven’t introduced their observers to the commission.
Meanwhile, election watchdogs have expressed concern regarding transparency of election. They say that presence of domestic and international observers is key to ensuring transparency.
Yosuf Rashid, CEO of Free and Fair Election Forum of Afghanistan, urged candidates to introduce their observers to the commission.
According to IEC officials, 24 domestic entities including political movements, election watchdogs, media, and civil society institutions have received accreditation from the commission.
IEC said that the process of transporting sensitive election materials to voting centres in provinces would begin in next five days.
