Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah said on Monday that invalidation of all fraudulent votes is the way to resolve the presidential crisis.
“No one should’ve underestimated our commitment to genuine democracy, our resolve to uphold rule of law,” Abdullah said. “Our track record of self-denial, compromise should not have given cause to anyone to take us for granted. Invalidation of all fraudulent votes is the way out.”
Abdullah said this on Twitter on the day he and President Ashraf Ghani is expected to hold oath-taking ceremony. Abdullah has also threatened to do so if Ghani does.
The Independent Election Commission announced Ghani as winner of the election, but Abdullah has rejected the results citing fraud.
Ghani has delayed his inauguration until the afternoon.
“We are in serious negotiation with Abdullah team since last night, and it is still underway,” an unidentified official was quoted as saying by Reuters. “We hope to reach an agreement with Abdullah team.”
