Militants have killed a member of Samangan provincial council after kidnapping him, officials said on Sunday.
Syed Halim Agha was abducted on Saturday and was found dead in Cheshma-e-Shir area of Baghlan province, said Munir Ahmad Farhad, a spokesman for Samangan police.
The official blamed the Taliban for the attack. The group has yet to make comment.
Separately, Afghan forces killed 12 Taliban militants in an air raid in central-eastern Ghazni province, officials said.
Arif Noori, a spokesman for provincial governor, said that those killed included two would-be suicide attackers from Pakistan.
The raid happened in Deh Mullah area of Khogyani district.
