Afghan batsman Mohammad Shahzad, who was suspended in August last year for violating discipline rules, has had his ‘playing’ ban lifted with immediate effect, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) said on Wednesday.
Shahzad had been banned from playing in Afghanistan’s national and domestic teams for violating ACB Discipline rules for traveling and practicing outside the country without prior NOC from ACB, the board said.
The 33-year had recently lodged a mercy appeal and promised not to repeat the mistake to the ACB Chairman Mr.Farhan Yusefzai, which was accepted, ACB said.
“He will be eligible to play all forms of Cricket subject to his fitness from the 26th of February 2020 but his contract ban will continue till the previously imposed date August 2020,” ACB said.
Shahzad was embroiled in a controversy during the 2019 World Cup, when he last represented Afghanistan. He was replaced mid-way through the tournament because of a knee injury.
