Gone are the days when the fate of Arg (Afghan presidential palace) was decided at the backrooms of foreign intelligence agencies, President Ashraf Ghani said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a ceremony to celebrate independence in newly-rehabilitated Darul Aman palace, Ghani said that Afghans would never surrender to a small minority which is against freedom and development.
He said that militants spare no efforts to take control of Afghanistan.
The president said that the Taliban have two choices, either respect the Afghan government and make peace or face firm will to counter them.
Referring to US-Taliban talks, Ghani said that the Afghan government would make public full details of the process after the sides reach an understanding and as Afghan government’s negotiations with the Taliban begin.
He emphasized that the upcoming presidential election, scheduled for September 28, will be held. He said that holding a transparent election was important for survival of the republic.
