Afghanistan Public Health Ministry launched a polio vaccination campaign on Monday, with around 9 million children estimated to receive the drops.
The five-day campaign will cover 30 of the country’s 34 provinces. It will start in two months in the remaining four provinces where weather remains harsh.
More than 2.5 million children, however, will miss the vaccination due to insecurity, mostly in south of the country.
Afghanistan and the neighboring Pakistan are the only two countries in the world that polio cases are reported every year, Afghanistan Public Health Ministry said.
A total of 29 polio cases were registered last, most of them in south of the country.
The vaccination drive will begin in Bamyan, Daikundi, Ghor and Badghis provinces in two months.
