Afghanistan’s Vice President Sarwar Danish said on Saturday he hoped that US killing of top Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani would not affect the peace process.
Soleimani, the top commander of the elite Quds Force of Iran’s Revolutionary Gaurds, was killed on Friday in a US air strike on his convoy at Baghdad airport.
Danish expressed concern over the incident and called for the sides to exercise restraint.
“We assure all remote and nearby countries particularly the neighbors that Afghanistan will not be used against the interests of any other nation,” Danish said.
“No one will be allowed to ignore Afghanistan’s national interests and use it as a ground for proxy wars,” he warned.
He said that US is a strategic ally of Afghanistan while Iran is one of its major neighbors having friendly and historic ties.
“Afghanistan will continue relations with all the states based on international laws and mutual respect,” he said.
