A local radio station’s employee has been killed in Afghanistan’s southern Helmand province, a top media watchdog said on Thursday.
Safar Mohammad, part-timetechnical workerof Samon radio station, left for a reception on Wednesday and his body was found in Safian area of Lashkargah city on Thursday, editor-in-chief of the media outlet Hayatullah Sahil said as quoted by Nai media advocacy group.
It remains unclear what was the motive behind the killing.
Mohammad Omar Zwak, a spokesman for provincial governor, said that an investigation was launched into the incident.
Meanwhile, police said it would release details of the incident after carrying out an investigation.
Nai called on local authorities to seriously investigate the incident and make clear if the killing was linked to the victim’s occupation.
This is the first incident of killing a media worker in Afghanistan in 2020.
A total of 10 journalists and media workers were killed last year.
