Afghanistan’s High Peace Council has received no funding over the last five months, its deputy said on Thursday.
Haji Din Mohammad said that the council has received no funding since its secretariat was dissolved by President Ashraf Ghani in July.
The HPC had been established in 2010 during the Hamid Karzai rule to negotiate with the Taliban, however, its effectiveness has largely been questioned.
The council was formed following a consultative grand assembly of elders known as Loya Jirga, that was participated by 6,600 people from different parts of the country.
The council was first led by former president and leader of Jamiat-i-Islamic political party, Burhanuddin Rabbani, for over a year before his death in a suicide attack.
The council is currently headed by former vice president and leader of Wahdat-i-Islami political party, Karim Khalili.
However, the council has been under criticism for ineffectiveness despite receiving huge amount of funding.
The president has created State Ministry for Peace Affairs and experts believe that he will dissolve the entire High Peace Council if re-elected.
