Darzab district’s center had fallen to the Taliban three months ago, said Abdul Maruf Azar, a spokesman for provincial governor.
He said that Afghan forces based in Tapa Antan were carrying out operations, including defusing bombs.
Azar said thatdiscovering bombswas not possible after snow blanketed the region, therefore Afghan forces left the base for Maimana, the capital city of neighbouring Faryab province.
