The Afghan Taliban said on Monday it had no intention of declaring a ceasefire and rejected reports that its leadership had agreed to it.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that the United States had asked for a redcution in the scale and intensity of violence and that its internal consultations were revolvoign solely around this specific issue.
He said that Taliban leader had no yet issued a final decree and neither is there any differences within the group on the issue.
Recently, local and internatinoal media outlets citing Taliban sources said that the group’s leadership had agreed to a temporary ceasefire that would last 7 to 10 days.
Meanwhile, Afghan governor in Helmand confirmed on Monday that senior Taliban leaders were visiting the province to discuss ceasefire with their commanders.
They included a brother of Taliban deputy leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and another relative of him, deputy of Mullah Yaqub, son of Taliban founder of Mullah Omar, the governor said.
