A US service member was killed in action in Afghanistan on Monday, the US military said in a statement.
Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack which it said was a bomb blast in Chahardara district of Kunduz province.
More than a dozen foreign force members have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.
US negotiators have held several rounds of peace talks with the Taliban in Qatar, which is home to the group’s political office.
Top US negotiator Zalmay Khalilzad said earlier this month that they would take a brief pause from the talks, after the insurgents launched a suicide attack on US base in Bagram.
