A police commander was killed in Afghanistan’s northern Balkh province last night, officials said Sunday.
Mohammad Khan Ahmadi, the commander of special police unit in Faryab province, was killed by Taliban militants in Sholgara district, said Adil Shah, a spokesman for Balkh police.
He said that the commander was visiting Balkh to attend the funeral of his father.
The commander was in the house of his sister when he was attacked by militants, Shah said.
One of the commander’s guards was also killed in the assault, he said.
The insurgents took two of the commander’s relatives with themselves and later shot one, Shah said.
