Former Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi will captain Rangpur Rangers during the 2019-20 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season, the franchise has announced.
Nabi, who tops ICC’s T20I rankings for all-rounders, has already played in BPL, but it is the first that that he has been appointed as captain in the league.
The 34-year old has been a key part of Afghanistan’s rise in world cricket, featuring in Afghanistan’s first-ever T20I and ODI, before appearing in their landmark maiden Test match against India in 2018.
Nabi retired from Test cricket after his last action in the five-day format against Bangladesh, which Afghanistan won.
BPL’s upcoming season will start on December 11. Seven teams will be playing in the tournament.
Nabi-led Rangpur Rangers will take on Cummilla Warriors in their first match on December 11.
