Afghanistan’s 2020 budget proposal includes around $300 million cut for security sector, officials said on Thursday.
Abdul Habib Zadran, deputy finance minister for administrative affairs, said that the reduction was due to saving.
“We have saved around $300 million in next year’s budget for the ministries of interior affairs and defense, meaning we reduced the budget,” Zadran said speaking at a press conference.
“We considered proper criteria in calculating or estimating the budget,” he said.
Afghanistan’s annual security budget is $5.5 billion. Of it, $500 million is funded from domestic resources, while the rest comes from international community.
