Once there is peace, there will be no need for international troops in Afghanistan, the country’s Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah has said.
Speaking in an interview with Russian broadcaster RT, Abdullah said that the international troops including those from the United States were in Afghanistan due to presence of terror groups like al-Qaeda, Daesh.
“I think efforts for facilitating peace should be expedited, that is what the Afghans want” Abdullah said. “Once there is peace, there will be no need for international troops in the country.”
Citing 9/11 attack, Abdullah said that US troops wouldn’t be in Afghanistan had it not been for the threat to their homeland security.
“It is not that the Afghans want foreign troops in the country, unfortunately, conditions which were created led to this situation,” Abdullah said.
Abdullah suggested they were looking for reaction of the Taliban during intra-Afghan dialogue which is expected to be held in China.
“If Taliban agree on reduction of violence or ceasefire during the negotiations between the Afghans, that would considered a step forward,” Abdullah said.
