Afghan government on Sunday urged politicians to put aside “personal issues” and let it represent them in peace talks with the Taliban.
Sediq Sediqi, the president’s spokesman, told a press conference that it will be difficult for the government to consider the demand of every political group, saying they were numerous and lacking consensus.
He said that for peace, the Taliban should stop violence and enter into negotiations with the Afghan government.
He said that there was national consensus for peace, adding there was also need for regional and international consensus.
He said that the government had a plan for peace and President Ghani was working to attract countries’ support for its implementation.
Sediqi said that the details of the plan would be released later.
On an intra-Afghan dialogue which is expected to be held in China, Sediqi hoped that it would help facilitate formal negotiations with the Taliban.
US President Donald Trump halted peace talks with the Taliban last month after the group claimed responsibility for a deadly attack in Kabul.
The US is looking to revive the talks and on Saturday Washington’s top negotiator Zalmay Khalilzad arrived in Kabul, where he met with Afghan government leaders and politicians outside the government.
