US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad arrived in Afghan capital Kabul on Saturday for first visit since the collapse of peace talks with the Taliban last month.
Pir Syed Hamid Gilani, an Afghan political leader, in a statement said that Khalilzad met him, where they discussed peace and election.
Khalilzad was accompanied byUS’s Deputy Assistant to the President and Senior Director for South and Central Asia, Lisa Curtis, according to the statement.
Khalilzad held a year of talks with the Taliban before they were halted by US President Donald Trump last month.
The US is now looking to revive the process.
