China is expected to soon host an intra-Afghan peace conference, a source in the Afghan government told 1TV on Monday.
The Afghan government and politicians have been invited to the meeting.
Dawa Khan Minapal, deputy presidential spokesman, did not confirm or reject if the meeting would take place, but he said that any Afghan peace talks should involve the government.
The source said that efforts were underway to form a delegation involving government officials and politicians to use China conference as an opportunity to convince the Taliban enter into negotiations with Afghans.
The Taliban held a year of talks with the United States before they were halted by US President Donald Trump last month.
There have been several meetings between the Taliban and Afghan politicians, including in Russia and Qatar, but the group has so far refused to enter into direct negotiations with the Afghan government.
