Millions of Americans are expected to turn out on Election Day on Tuesday to choose their next president.

The voters will decide between two major party candidates – businessman Donald Trump and former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton.

The election is decided by the Electoral College or a group of 538 electors. 270 votes are required for a candidate to be declared winner.

Polls given by U.S. media show Clinton leading Trump. If Clinton wins, she will be first woman to lead a country that has the strongest military on earth.

The Election Day, commencing at 11:00 GMT (3:30p.m. Kabul Time) follows a bitter campaign where the candidates traded insults and became mired in a series of scandals.

More than 46 million people have already cast ballots in early voting.

The election is keenly watched by the world as U.S. is the most powerful nation on earth with its policies impacting some countries.

Results should begin emerging at 4:00 GMT (8:30 a.m. Kabul Time on Wednesday).
