Pakistan's national security advisor has said that the United States is a superpower only because of Pakistan's sacrifices.
Nasir Khan Janjua made the remarks while referring to Pakistan’s role in countering Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
“If Pakistan did not stand against Russia, would Afghanistan still exist?” Janjua asked, local media reported.
The senior Pakistani official also rejected allegations that Pakistan sponsors the Taliban.
“It is said Pakistan is supporting Taliban. If that is true then why are Pakistani Taliban fighting a war against us?”
Pakistan has repeatedly been accused by Afghan and Western officials of failure to adequately act against militants. However, Islamabad has denied the allegations saying it is itself victim of terrorism.
In a meeting with Afghan Defence Attache to U.K. in London, Pakistan’s military chief Qamar Bajwa said that “every Afghan is dear to me as every Pakistani, I am as hurt for every Afghan who is a victim of terrorism as much as I am for every Pakistani.”
