India plans to seal its borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh by 2018, its home minister said on Saturday.
Rajnath Singh said that the move would be a major step against terrorism and the problem of refugees, according to local media reports.
He said that the decision has been taken in the wake of increased infiltration attempts.
Speaking at a parade of India’s Border Security Force, Rajnath said that New Delhi wants seal the border by employing a mix of physical barriers and technological tools such as surveillance.
India and Pakistan share around 3,000-km border.
Relations between the nuclear-armed have deteriorated in recent months with each trading accusations of violating ceasefire. They have dispute over Kashmir.
