Teenage leg-spinner Rashid Khan on Wednesday created history as he became the first Afghan player to make debut in Indian Premier League.
The 18-year-old was named in the playing XI of the defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad and took two wickets against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening match of the IPL season 10.
Rashid Khan’s two wickets for 36 of four overs helped his side won the match against RCB by 35 runs and start their IPL campaign in a positive note.
He was bought by Sunrisers along with other star Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi. Nabi, however, followed the Wednesday night’s match while setting in the dugout.
Rashid entered the Indian cash-rich league with strong performances in the T20 and ODI Internationals, taking five and 16 wickets in both formats respectively. He also hit a half-century in one of the ODI games as well as claiming match-haul of eight scalps in the four-day game.
