Kal Penn, an American actor, has donated his thousands of dollars MasterChef Celebrity prize money to Palestinian refugees.
“I chose the United Nations agency for relief and works for Palestinian refugees; $25,000 can feed over a thousand people for a year,” Penn said.
“I’m thrilled to be helping UNRWA do its critical work in Ghaza and Syria. They’re a lifeline for so many families.”
UNRWA expressed appreciation for his "generosity".
“We can’t thank you enough for your generosity and for highlighting the plight of Palestine refugees,” the agency said in a post on Facebook.
The Palestinian refugee crisis began in 1948 during Israeli war. There are around 5.6 million Palestinian refugees registered with U.N. and their numbers have been on the rise.
Kal Penn is known for his role on television program House as well as in the Harold & Kumar film series.
Currently, he stars in character of Seth Wright in the ABC political drama Designated Survivor.
