A young woman has been brutally killed by his husband in southern Helmand province, officials said Sunday.
The 25-year-old woman, identified as Ruqia, was killed on Saturday night in the provincial capital city, Lashkargah.
Following the murder, her killer cut her body into pieces and threw it into a well, said Abdul Shukoor Jalili, the head of crime unit for provincial police.
The couple had three children.
The motive behind the violence was not clear.
Police said that the culprit was arrested, adding an investigation was underway.
Local rights officials condemned the incident, calling on the government to punish the perpetrator of the crime.
The incident comes as violence against women is said to be on the rise in Afghanistan.
Helmand is a volatile province with Taliban insurgents controlling areas in recent years, more than any time since 2001.
