Afghan President Ashraf Ghani introduced Nargis Nehan as nominee for minister of mines and petroleum position.
She will have to undergoparliament's vote of approval, according to a presidential decree.
The new nominee comes a year after Daud Shah Saba quit the position.
Since then. the ministry has been run by caretaker Ghazal Habib Yar Safi.
The introduction comes as the European Union urged the Afghan government to appoint a "capabe and trusted" mines minister this month.
It also comes on the day when parliament held vote of no-confidence against ministers of interior affairs and defense.
