The Afghan government has welcomed Russia's recent position with regards to peace and stability in Afghanistan, the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MoFA) said Tuesday.
It comes after Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry in a statement has stated that their recent contacts with Afghan armed groups are aimed at promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan and in the region.
In a press briefing, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia stated that the Russian government has asked the Taliban to lay-down their arms, cut their ties with terrorist groups and join peace talks to ensure durable peace and stability and end fighting in Afghanistan.
"The Afghan Government believes that sincere efforts of the regional countries towards peace in Afghanistan can be lucrative to this end," MoFA said in a statement.
The statement further said: "The Afghan government reiterates that state to state relations and cooperation are considered to be the basic principal and need for promoting regional security and stability, suppressing the terrorism and fighting the cultivation, production, and smuggling of drugs."
The Afghan government repeatedly has shown readiness to peace talks with those armed groups who are committed to peace in Afghanistan, the statement noted.
"Believe in intra-Afghan talks and don’t want the Afghans to be sacrificed by conspiracies of other countries anymore," It added.
