Street harassment and verbal abuse of women in the workplace are intolerable, President Ashraf Ghani said on Wednesday while delivering speech marking International Women's Day.
Women who work outside the home are seen as targets to be hunted and anti-women sentiments should be ended from the society, Ghani said.
"Every women’s presence in villages and cities, in our home and institutions have positive implications for the development of the nation and regarded as honor and a source of belief for the future of the country," Ghani said.
The President also appreciated the efforts of Human Rights' activists in Afghanistan and expressed hope to see the emerge of Afghan women leaders in other important professions as well.
Congratulating the International Women's Day to Afghan women, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah praised the activities and achievements of women in different parts of the country.
Referring to women's economic empowerment program, CE Abdullah said: "This is one of the major programs of the government and we are supporting it."
On the sideline of the ceremony held at the Presidential Palace, Afghan women's handicrafts were also exhibited to the visitors.
