The Taliban militants have kidnapped at least 52 civilians in northern Jowzjan province, local officials said Wednesday.
The motive behind the abduction was not cleared, however, Lutfullah Azizi, the provincial governor said that the Taliban likely have kidnapped them over a land dispute in the province.
"We have sent 10 local tribal elders to them to free these civilians," Azizi said. "The outcome is not yet known and will be cleared soon."
However, Azizi said that the kidnapped people were with the Taliban's provincial shadow governor who apparently lives in Dasht-e Leili of Jowzjan.
According to the local officials, from the area where these civilians have been kidnapped is under control of the Taliban since a year or so.
