A delegation led by National Security Advisor by Hanif Atmar on Wednesday went to southern Kandahar province to investigate the incident that left a dozen dead including UAE nationals.
The blast triggered by explosives placed in two sofas in the provincial governor’s compound killed at least 11 people, including provincial deputy governor, two MPs, and other senior officials. It also injured the provincial governor and UAE ambassador.
"The National Security Advisor, Hanif Atmar went to Kandahar with a delegation to comprehensively assess the incident," said Haroon Chakhansuri, a spokesman to President Ashraf Ghani.
However, the provincial police chief General Abdul Raziq has said that Haqqani terrorist network with the support of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was behind the "brutal" attack on governor’s compound.
Gen. Raziq said that the Haqqani network and ISI were working since a long period of time to conduct such kind of deadly attacks in the province.
Earlier on Wednesday, President Ghani said that such acts will not affect the relations and cooperation between Afghanistan and UAE.
