A senior Taliban commander has been killed in an insider attack in Afghanistan's northern province of Takhar, officials said Sunday.
Majeed, who was based in Yangi Qala district, was killed by his nephew named Naeem, the provincial police said.
The militant commander was targeted after he killed a tribal elder in the province.
His killer joined the uprising forces in the province following the act.
There were no further details on how the attack was carried out.
Separately, the Interior Ministry on Sunday said that 49 militants had been killed during the past 24 hours in offensive across the country.
The operations were carried out in the provinces of Zabul, Helmand, Paktia, Logar, Oruzgan, Kandahar, Herat, Nangarhar, Sar-e-Pul, Faryab, Kunduz and Takhar, it said in a statement.
Another 31 militants were wounded while 16 more arrested by the Afghan forces in the operations, according to the statement.
